These 2 types of the volley to the fence are a great way to attack at the net.

The fence is the least predictable part of the court, therefore it makes sense to aim for it during a point...on the right ball!!

The 2 types of volley to the fence are:
1. With a dropshot - as the fence is involved the dropshot does not need to have as much spin or be was risky as a normal dropshot. You can hit a bit higher, aiming for the 2nd bounce to land on the fence or around where the fence contacts the ground.
2. Fast, Slice Volley - this is when you receive a slightly easier ball to the outside of the body, you have the space to contact round the ball and hit down to the space before the fence. Again, this does not need to be risky, it just needs a little slice, medium or fast pace and a target so the ball contacts the fence after the first bounce.

Usually it is difficult to play after the fence in these situations, but always be ready incase the ball pops up for your opponent instead!

From the Coach
"This shot does not need to be like the WPT where they have very small targets. Instead you can give yourself a bigger space to aim at and if you complete the objective (of hitting the fence) then the result will be the same!"

Sandy focused his attention from tennis to padel in 2010, learning the game with several trips and courses in Spain. His education in Sports Biomechanics, combined with playing and coaching at an international level (both in tennis and now padel) puts him in a great position to share his insights in the sport, hopefully helping others learn in the process.
